Anchoring

1. Choose an anchorage
Check wind direction, current, water depth, and bottom conditions.

1Maintain a safe distance from other boats and obstacles.

2. Prepare the anchor.

Prepare the anchor, chain, and line.

Have the bow thruster ready for use (engine running).

3. Approach the anchorage.
Approach against the wind or current.
Bring the boat to a controlled stop.

4. Lower the anchor.

Lower the anchor slowly (do not drop!).
Give enough chain/line (rule of thumb: 3-5 times the water depth).

5. Reverse to lower the anchor.
Reverse slowly, tighten the chain.
Anchor catches, boat stops.

Try again if the anchor is loose.

6. Check the anchor position.
Use landmarks or GPS to check your position.
Use the bow thruster for small course adjustments.

7. Anchor watch and safety.
Check your position regularly.
Set the anchor ball (mandatory when anchoring is well )
